SXSW09: Core Conversation Sunday - Blogging And It's Future | Mar 16, 02:42 PM
Sunday morning was a bit of a white wash and continued the tradition of picking panels that were not the talk of the day. Including walking to, but not into the Is Spec Design Evil? and then opting for a bit more downtime.
To combat the losing streak it was decided that attending some core conversations on blogging would be the perfect ailment for the panel woes.
Core Conversations are round table discussions with experts on a variety of topics. The ones chosen for Saturday were Is the Personal Blog Dead? and Blogging Skills and Beyond. Both were intriguing in regards to the development of a online Personal brand and the evolution of the blog. But the main synopsis of both panels was that the concept of a Personal Blog has transformed from a daily log of your life into an element of a selection of applications that creates an online personal brand.
With growing presence of Twitter, facebook and other online Social Media applications, the blog has changed in the past three years. The entity it was before has now died. Rather now professionals should be utilizing their blogs in conjunction with other applications for networking and to promote their own professional personal brand.
The Blog should be an entity to promote your services and your knowledge in a long format, while professionals should utilize Twitter, LinkedIn and Flickr to connect with people and drive them to the respiratory of your thoughts and ideas which is located on your professional blog.
As a company that specializes in developing personal branding in conjunction with customized blogs, these two sessions where an inspirational take on what has been considered a fading element of the online persona. It was great to see some optimism and some brilliant points.

Glutastic.com | Oct 30, 08:06 AM
Working together with Caitlin Currie (a very close friend to the company), Armadillo Studios Inc. proudly launches Glutastic.com – A new lifestyle site about living with Celiac Disease.

Utilizing the Wordpress Content Management System, we handcrafted a template for Glutastic.com. With this site, Caitlin wanted to create a little enclave on the web to provide important information about Celiac Disease and the struggles of living a Gluten-free lifestyle to the 20-30 year age bracket. The catch was she wanted to bring the information with a lighthearted and positive outlook and provide more exposure to the disease in the Calgary region.

Utilizing Veer’s wonderful Candy Script and an assortment of vibrant colors we crafted an engaging and enjoyable layout. We designed this site to catch the eye while balancing the fine line between bright and intrusive.
In addition, to the engaging layout, we also included some helpful plug-ins to increase Wordpress’ usability and to also increase the interaction with the site. We included an advanced Rich Text-Editor to allow for better control of the layout for the posts. We also incorporated social networking links, which allow readers to share their favorite Glutastic articles to their favorite social networking site.
So we encourage you to check in with Glutastic.com and learn a little about the struggles and joys of life with a gluten allergy.

iPhone goes Enterprise | Jun 13, 12:59 PM
A couple of weeks ago we posted an article detailing the potential importance of the Apple’s Iphone to our Canadian customers. Well, with Mondays iPhone news at the WorldWide Developers Conference it looks like the next release of the iPhone will have far more impact on your business then we thought.
In simple laymen terms, it looks like Apple is poised to take a bite out of Blackberry’s dominance on the Business Wireless Device market. With the release of iPhone 2.0 software, the iPhone will now contain Enterprise software comparable to Blackberry offers. So what does that mean for your business?
Essentially, this news solidifies the iPhone’s future cultural importance and will open your business up to an entire group of new users that will have a greater access to wireless Internet. In particular, it means that your web site will need to be compatible with the iPhone’s internet browsers or you will be missing out on a slew of vital customers.
And as one analyst has already pointed out – we’re witnessing the birth of a third major platform, after Windows (PC) and OS X.

WordPress 2.5 | Apr 7, 06:32 AM
We here at Armadillo have been keeping a keen eye out for the new WordPress 2.5 upgrade.. We’re excited to announce that it is finally here.

This is really important news for all of our clients. As WordPress is the Content Management System (CMS) that powers our all of our current web sites. But how does this upgrade affect you, the web site owner?
First and foremost this new incarnation of WordPress has dramatically improved upon the interface. From a client standpoint the new design is easier on the eyes and more intuitive. Posts and Pages are located under the Write section, while complicated administration settings are neatly hidden in the top right-hand corner. While this could be frustrating for a few powerusers, for the common user this has greatly decreased the confusion and intimidation of the initial wordpress welcome screen. First time users or general computer novices are going to love the simplicity of it all.
Secondly, 2.5 now has a friendlier Visual Post Editor. What that means is that the page and post editing have greatly been improved. And to steal directly from the wordpress blog – It doesn’t Mess with your code anymore.

While WordPress is consistently one of the strongest Content Management Systems around, it has had it’s quirks. In particular, how it handles WYSIWG editing.
This new upgrade will dramatically enhance how users, with little HTML coding knowledge, control the content on the their site. Easier post creation and more importantly a simpler page editor, make it easier for you to control your web site and use your site to it’s full potential.
As one of our free ongoing service, we will be upgrading all of our web sites to WordPress 2.5 over the next month. (That’s right, at no extra cost) Of course we’ll be doing some testing to make sure everything runs smoothly, but on a whole we believe that WP 2.5 will greatly enhance the user experience.
If you would like to learn more about the changes, please read the official wordpress release or you can read over some of the reviews here.
