Armadillo Blacksout For SOPA & A Better Internet | Jan 18, 06:50 AM


Today, January 18th, Team Armadillo is joining hundreds of web sites across North America in blacking out in support of the anti-SOPA and anti-PIPA movement.

And while it’s great news that SOPA (The Stop Online Privacy Act) has been shelved by Congress for the time being, it still doesn’t address some of the underlying threats towards the web industry in North America. It’s a step forward, but governments north and south of the 49th parallel must show a greater understanding of the importance of this emerging industry.

One of the founding principals of Armadillo Studios is to embrace, participate and encourage a sense of community.

If you’ve been following us for anytime you will have noticed how much we love to promote, retweet and encourage the growing Calgary tech community. It’s one of the main reasons, we started the yycapps.com project last year and one of the main impetuses for participating with democamps, meet-ups and other local ventures.

There is a general misconception that the Web Design industry as a cut-throat dog-eat-dog world, in actuality it really is one of the most cooperative industries. With many developers and designers sharing their opinions and knowledge across corporate lines. Sure there are some moments when you’ll find yourself competing with another studios for a client, but on the whole, our experience has shown that it’s better to share and encourage than to ham up some fabricated rivalry.

It’s one of the main reasons, why we’ve started leveraging online design communities for peer-to-peer feedback.

Getting Onboard With QR Codes | Apr 24, 12:34 PM


Earlier this month we had the pleasure of announcing the redesign of Mike’s Bloggity Blog. It was an important time for Mike, in addition to the new redesign he was also sponsoring the opening night of the Calgary Underground Film Festival.

So in conjunction with the redesign, Armadillo Studios, also crafted up a special advert for Mike’s Bloggity Blog in the festival program. Which of course gave us the perfect opportunity to jump on the QR Code Bandwaggon.

For the past two days, Team Armadillo has venture into the heart of D.C. for two separate Digital Capital Week Events.

On Tuesday, Armadillo descended on to the headquarters of National Geographic for a full day discussion on Media and it’s role in the Web 2.0 World. With a heavy hitting list of speakers from NPR, USAToday, National Geographic and the Pew Institute it was a wonderful day chalk-full of information.
